25 Winter Activities for all to Enjoy

RSS

I think winter is officially here in the Midwest since we saw giant snowflakes Saturday. It was actually quite blustery outside and I scared my boys by squealing in delight as the snow swirled outside. The first snow is always one of my favorite signs of winter! And while, winter isn't my favorite season there are a few things that are highlights for me, and the first snowfall is one of them. Christmas is another one of course. Decorating the house, making cookies, gathering around the table with family, and tackling those special traditions. If you are short on ideas of what things to do with your family this winter, we've compiled a list of activities that you can either do this year or make a tradition from year to year that the whole family will look forward to.

1. Build a Snowman

2. Have a day full of baking all of your favorite wintry treats and make a little extra for the mailman, neighbors, and UPS guy - Corinn

3. Gather the family and have a Christmas movie marathon complete with a themed dinner and popcorn at movie time

4. Sledding

5. Take your kids and grand kids caroling and deliver fruit baskets to shut ins, widows, or someone who needs a bit of encouragement - Charlotte

6. Pack a box for a soldier and send it with a sweet homemade greeting card from the whole family

7. Grab your favorite warm beverage and sweet treat and people watch at the mall

8. Take a family photo

9. Make snow ice cream

10. Have a small get together with several of your closest friends and include a white elephant gift exchange

11. Attend a Christmas Eve service or a local live nativity

12. Send greeting cards to family and friends

13. String popcorn

14. Take a stroll outside while it's snowing

15. Bev says her husband takes her to tour local neighborhoods with Christmas lights. You can take this a step further and go with your kids or grand kids dressed in your jammies. Include hot chocolate and popcorn or cookies for the ride

16. "Making Christmas ornaments is a family favorite" says Jennifer

17. Pack a shoebox for Samaritan's Purse

18. Have game night with family and friends with special finger foods

19. Go ice skating

20. Volunteer at a local soup kitchen

21. Buy tickets for the Polar Express

22. Each year have a color themed Christmas tree

23. Find an Advent Story to read to your kid's during the Christmas season such as Jotham's Journey

24. Do a cookie exchange with your ladies bible study group, home-school group, or your neighborhood friends

25. Attend a painting class with a wintry theme

One of the best parts about making memories is they don't have to cost a dime. Just gathering around with family and friends and doing the things you love will create special memories for years to come.

What a great tradition, Brandie! My family gathers at my parents Christmas Eve and we have a big slumber party. When I was little we did the same thing with my cousins at my grandparents house. Love all the memories!
